Lawrence Half-Marathon this weekend....

I am 2 weeks out from the Colorado Marathon in Fort Collins and this weekend I will run a 1/2 in Lawrence as my last hard training run. I plan on doing it between 1:50 and 2 hours....we will see. A fellow runner, Jenny , brought this up. She said it was her favorite 1/2, so she convinced several of us to sign up and go run it....then she started talking about going up Mount Oread and hills and things like that....so I am not sure how difficult this course is, so as long as I get it done in 2 hours I will be happy. If the charge up Mount Oread is really nasty I can fall back to my chant...."I am a billy goat, watch me climb"....repeat as many times as necessary and it will get you up the hill as well as humor (at first), then annoy everyone around you. It won't matter, hills are good for you....and at some point you get to go back down them and that is what I need to train to do, since Fort Collins is almost all downhill.

Doug... you and I are going to get go at full-tilt-boogie for the first time in a race - this is going to be fun! The hill is at mile four... and you will be hauling up that thing for about a half mile - but once up it the rest is a breeze... little rollers here and there.

Hey Doug and Jenny, good luck to both of you in the race. When my daughter went to school there, I remember walking up some hill that was awful steep, I'm glad I'm not running it! Just remember:

...Thanks....I entered this race to celebrate my 9th year in a row of NOT qualifying for Boston!

Doug,
I was pondering the idea of qualifying for Boston again. Yes, that would mean I'd have to run a PAVED (yech!) marathon. I did it before, and I know what it takes. If you want a training buddy to work with from time to time, let me know.

I want to break four hours first. My best marathon is 4:17 and I need a 3:20 to qualify right now....I need to get less fat and older and actually get in the ballpark! I have started running more seriously now and I have sped up some, but I have a ways to go. Fort Collins will tell me a lot about where I am at.....After some trail running early this summer, I am going to hit the training hard for the fall.
